    Sea Drift

Hearing Sea Drift just now, I was minded to find the text of that part of the poem which Delius set:

Quite strange and arcane...but not quite, IMO, fitting the announcer's synopsis which went something like, " a young boy sees two seagulls [sic] mating but then the male bird dies". Er, more to it than that, I think.

    Rather!

It's the female mocking-bird who dies. And her mate cries out, a sound which awakes in the boy sensations about poetry and Nature, but also of Life and Death.

There now, that wasn't too hard was it, Petroc?

[hope I got that right ]
