Oooh, at last. Something to excite me. A double bill of Prom 52 LSO/Gergiev doing Prokofiev's Cinderella followed by Prom 53 Italian Vespers with I Fagiolini/Hollingworth. Definitely the loggia box and buckets of champagne that night!

Although the operas scheduled for the BBC Proms were largely known some weeks (months) ago, it doesn't stop it being an impressive line-up:

Otherwise, there's plenty to tempt here. When was the last time a whole Beethoven symphony cycle was entrusted to just one orchestra/ conductor? Interesting (and ambitious).

Plenty of British music, but then I suspect certain quarters will still not be satisfied with the musical fare on offer. I think the triple VW symphony Prom conducted by Andrew Manze will be excellent. There's quite a lot of Delius and the Elgar Apostles should be a season highlight.

The Leipzig Gewandhaus, the Berlin Phil, the Vienna Phil... what austerity measures, Roger?

And I'm thrilled to see L'Arpeggiata at a chamber prom.

I need to study it in more detail, but first glance, Elgar's Apostles is a must. And Berlioz Requiem It seems a pretty solid, if middle of the road programme, but no worse for that. No novelty proms? (i.e. Comedy. Actually I enjoyed Tim Minchin last year!) My Fair Lady is a bit naff but that goes under Proms for Beginners, and I do hope, these so called Beginners Proms are broadcast on BBC1, not hidden away somewhere.

Prom 39 Berlioz - Requiem.
Prom 46 Vaughan Williams - 4,5,& 6.
Shostakovich 7 & 10.
Delius - Violin Concerto.
Britten - Peter Grimes.
Howells - Hymnus Paradisi .
Elgar - 1.
The all Mendelssohn Prom.

Lowlights -
No Parry, Stanford ,Alwyn or Lloyd symphonies but then I suppose that was never going to happen!

Anna, I agree that Apostles does look very good.

I also think Runnicles will make more than a decent fist of Bruckner 8.

Anyone have any views on Sao Paolo SO/ Alsop?

Still, as long as Roger can afford to get famous European orchestras to perform famous European orchestra repertoire at the Proms that's OK.
