What I think those who say mish-mash are really trying to indicate is bad programming, GG.

The best option when the chips are down is to go for the mash.

Andrew thinks Paul's is better. But the forum gets a link on Andrew's, and - no ads! (Most browsers have a search facility, so it's not hard, say, to find the works by a particular composer.)
It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

Surely, if people took advanage of amazon's pre-order the Proms Guide would only cost 4!!

RT usually includes a centrefold Proms guide nearer the event, but, iirc, it is not comprehensive: the late-night jazz 'n' poetry sessions weren't included last year.

            I know

But (apart from devoting the whole season to Bax, Rutland Boughton and Bufton-Tufton) what do those who see this as a "mish mash" see as GOOD programming ?

( I didn't know this kind of thing took place in a public arena ? )
One of the few occasions I agree with Simon: "My overall impression is pretty positive. It is, I would agree a mish-mash. However, I just view it these days as a large supply of concerts from which I am bound to be able to select a fair few with appeal"

Perhaps "mis-match" would be a more appropriate term. If the Proms organisers attempt to keep everyone happy, then there is bound to be a lot which does not appeal to many - perhaps a majority. But may be there are "threads" within the programming which listeners with particular interests can latch on to. And as Roger Wright stated, there may be unifying aspects which do not appear until in the course of performance.

And last but not least , the Proms are intended for a live audience, many or most being non-experts in the field.

Is that Stratford-upon-Avon or Stratford-upon-Westfield, HJ?

                            You're all too kind

Perhaps I was trying to make myself redundant

Anyway, I've finished highlighting and have now copied it into two printable versions, in the usual 2-column and 3-column formats, and have posted 'in the usual place'. (There's now a link to it on the blog, as well as one to this messageboard.)

(I've marked the printables as 'Version 1' so that I can re-issue if any errors are found or if any important details alter before the performances. If anybody spots any errors, please let me know.)

Yes it was 1981, mind you that's better than the last Daniel Jones Symphony which was 1959. Though his Dance Fantasy appeared in the 1980's and mid 90's.
