Proms in the Park: Saturday 10th September (London, Caerphilly, N. Ireland, Dundee)

    "Proms 75-78?"
For completeness we might include the four "Proms in the Park" with the following descriptions from the BBC website:

Saturday 10 September sees the World's largest classical music festival come to a spectacular conclusion as the world-famous Last Night of the Proms celebrations spill out from London's Royal Albert Hall, and people come together at venues across the UK to be part of the magic of the Last Night.

Events are now confirmed in London, Caerphilly, Northern Ireland and Scotland. Each show is centred around a live concert with its own high-profile artists, BBC orchestras and presenters.

The evenings culminate in a live big-screen link-up to the Royal Albert Hall when all are invited to join Susan Bullock to sing the Sound of Music's 'Climb Every Mountain' and Carousel's 'You'll Never Walk Alone'.

    Caerphilly
Caerphilly is getting set for a spell-binding evening of magical music, thanks to BBC Proms in the Park.

On Saturday, September 10, BBC Cymru Wales, in collaboration with Caerphilly County Borough Council, will wave a magic wand over Owain Glyndwr Playing Fields, with a ‘Magic and Wizardry’ themed Prom.

Joining the UK-wide revelry of the Last Night of the Proms, the enchanting evening will include the BBC National Orchestra of Wales adding their sparkling sound to the celebrations.

Gwenllian Haf Richards, violinist with the BBC National Orchestra of Wales and one of four members of the Orchestra who visited the new venue recently, explains why she is looking forward to performing at this outdoor event:

“Being part of a National Orchestra is such an incredible experience, as we perform across Wales and beyond. It will be fantastic to take classical music to the heart of the town. With the spectacular backdrop of Caerphilly Castle, the atmosphere will be incredible. Watching it on television, listening on radio or experiencing the evening at the field, followers will feel a part of a truly Welsh event."

With a blend of orchestral playing, vocal singing, celebrity presenters and sing-a-long numbers, without a doubt, it will be a live musical night not to be missed," said Gwenllian.

Bringing the summer festivities to a close, with classical music and fireworks, families and music lovers are invited to bring picnics and flags and to join in with the theme.

Anthony O'Sullivan, Caerphilly County BC Chief Executive welcomed the news:

"We are delighted to get the chance to host this prestigious concert in our area. The event promises to be a very special occasion performed in the shadow of Caerphilly's magnificent medieval castle. As well as enjoying the musical entertainment, we hope visitors to the area will also get the chance to see the wealth of attractions we have to offer."

Castle Park, Bangor - Northern Ireland

This spectacular open air concert brings together local and international artists for BBC Northern Ireland's biggest outside broadcast of the year. It's all part of making classical music more "accessible" - in this case mimicking Glastonbury Festival.

However, the Scottish one is a proper concert and last year's was most enjoyable when a recording of it was broadcast in full.

Well Lang Lang was good in La Campanella.
But what would Katherine Jenkins do during a power cut?

Caerffili has been cancelled on health and safety grounds, because it's pissing down.

Katherine Jenkins has a uniquely awful, tremulous voice. Very pretty to look at but please don't sing any more.

                    Dundee concert takes the cake.
It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

                      Groan!

It may do. BBC Scotland (see above) were giving nothing away.
