Serendipitiously I discovered searching by voice input yesterday while trying to figure out good ways to use an Apple magic trackpad in Snow Leopard to minimise typing to reduce the risk of carpel tunnel syndrome. To my surprise when looking at a page using Chrome and trying to search I noticed the possibility of voice input, which worked fine. On my Mac MBP this only works by specifically using the Chrome browser and navigating to the Google page. I expect this will gradually become a feature of new systems. It seems to be a feature of the new Nexus tablet.
It would be good if there were a way of combining speech input and the trackpad to allow more operations. I discovered the VO features in Apple's system, but they're not really so useful for most of us, as output rather than input related. http://www.apple.com/voiceover/info/guide/_1137.html
