It certainly is. My unit (surprisingly small - like a somewhat oversized Rennie) is all plugged in and I have solved - with your help - the conundrum in the heading to this thread

But...

... there is another conundrum now.

To play music from my computer to the hifi I have to join the 'Airport Express' network I created to enable the unit and my computer to 'talk'.

But that appears to mean that I have to disconnect from my WiFi network

I'm sure I'm doing something wrong. Can I not do both at the same time?

I'm disappointed, because it had struck me that I could use the APE to listen to internet radio via iTunes. But not at the moment...

Surely your Airport Express network is a wi-fi network? Am missing something obvious, obviously

I suspect you needed to join the AE to the existing network, not create a new one.

you need to use the Airport express or extend an existing network. It sounds like you've set it up as a new network in its own right.

First of all do a hard reset on your new AE. To do that you need to press and hold the small reset button, with a pencil or similar, until the light flashes very quickly a few times - that normally takes 5 seconds or so. The leaflet that came with AE should show you where that is.

Once reset set open the Airport Express Utility - that's in "Applications/Utilities/Airport Express Utility"

When you launch that you should see a box near the top left saying that a new device has been found. Click on that and you'll be able to configure the AE to extend your current wifi network - you'll be asked to enter your existing network password.

Once thats been been done launch iTunes. You should now see the square box next to volume control. Click on that and select Airport Express from the list of options. Once you've done that the square box will turn blue and sound will come out of your Airport Express.

If any of that isn't clear let me know and I'll post another message with some screenshots.

Ive just tried this - I have a spare Airport Express - so know it can work.

The little instruction book refers to resetting - but recommends "the end of a straightened paper clip" for the purpose. That's a quote! Hi-Tech or what!!

I'd already remembered, thanks, and tried it - my good friend LaurieWatt also of this parish often mentions its qualities I already had quite decent FM through the system, so it's the idea of having foreign stations that is an exciting novelty!
