And now I'm enjoying Pappano conducting Sibelius 2 What a treat, singing through my big old Cabasse speakers! Got to love the 21st Century !

At last! A twenty-first century response about this on this Board. Well done both!

The real point is that it caused no comment from anybody because it passes for regular banter - that's the 21st century 'response' . I say no comment, you of course couldn't stop your obsession with your homosexuality from getting in the way.

Actually it was all rather late 20th century... to wit, a quote from Blackadder II - 1987 ()

Dr Johnson: I think it's an awful dictionary full of feeble definitions and ridiculous verbiage. I've come to ask you to chuck the damned thing in the fire.
          Blackadder: Are you sure?
Dr Johnson: I've never been more sure of anything in my life, sir.
Blackadder: I love you, Doctor Johnson, and I want to have your babies. [They embrace.]

Another tip. If you want to get sound from say Safari to the AE, I don't think you can do that natively in OSX. However, you can use the Airfoil software to do this...

Stream from your Mac to Airplay, Bluetooth, and Chromecast outputs!

            Cost is under $30.

You could use this to direct the sound from iPlayer, YouTube and sites such as France Musique to your hifi system.

Of course if you have a reasonably up to date iOS device you can do something similar, using Airplay and the relevant app, without the need to buy any additional software.

If you do have an iPhone or iPad you may want to try the free Remote app from Apple. That allows you to control iTunes from an armchair.

              I'm getting confused.

When I link the Airport to my Hi-Fi, I had assumed that I would be able to use my iPad to play music from the iCloud through the Hi-Fi.

              Is that not the case?

I think it is the case, as long as it goes via iTunes...

Steve's talking about playing sound from a website accessed in Safari e.g. playing the audio of a YouTube clip etc (I think?)

Good, but what does 'goes via iTunes' mean. My iTunes 'proper' with the 'home' library, is not on my iPad. The iPad has an iMatch app and links to the matched songs in my iCloud. Confused?

Caliban, that's correct. If the item to be replayed is in a iPad/iPhone, or in iTunes, there isn't a problem. The situation I was trying to describe is where you want to listen to something that's being viewed in a web browser.

I've no idea why Apple haven't included this functionality in Mavericks.

If you are running iOS 7 slide a finger up from the bottom of the screen and you'll see what's known as 'Control Centre'. One of the icons is labelled 'Air Play'. If you press that you'll see a list of devices that the iPad can send the sound to (by default it's 'iPad'). If you select the Airport Express from that list, the sound from any app will be sent to the Airport Express rather than be played through the iPad. So if you select to play some music from iCloud on the iPad the sound will play through the Airport Express.

You of course don't know, you're guessing based on your renowned 'not me guv' prejudice. The sooner you get back to therapy, or the whisky, the better.

Thanks Steve, I take that to mean I can!

Don't seem to be able to slide the screen up for the control panel, but I'm sure I'll work that through.

Once again, thanks for taking the trouble to help us

Try putting your finger on the iPad just below the bottom of the screen and then slide the finger upwards. You should then see the control centre display.

What version of iOS are you using?
