TV query. re. getting Video Recorder on to new TV

PC World told my cousin, who did the running aboutfor me, that they would call on 30th btween 7am-11am

Twio men came at 8am with WRONG tv and after more phone calls a different staff member came at about 7PM'

He installed it but didn't stop to check on the DVD or Video setup.

Looks a they I shall have to ring them as relative is otherwise engaged atm.

Meanwhile I'm getting behind with LIFE ,food, etc.

I assumed it would be as the old set-up Day off fromit today. Thanks all.

Hello Dave, no as the ideas didn't work for me have left it so far as it's been a busy week.

I am very pleased with the picture so far and hav been busy with the DVD and my hard drive, which had quite a few proms to watch.

I must ring them soon, but again a busy week. I'll let you know if/when I get the video working.

To my friends who offered advice, I am cautiously optimistic that today's visitor has cracked it.

Not only must the hard drive be switched off at the box but also at the mains switch on the skirting board.

This directs the Scart to the video.

saly, yes, a bit of a nuisance, but I can understand the reasons, and if it works now I can't think of any good reason why it should cease to do so in the future.

Do please keep us informed.

The short fat actors may be fixable (fixable?) by altering the picture size on your TV remote.

Failing that, the rack and a good diet should fix them!

You need to change the TV's aspect ratio to 4:3 (from Widescreen).

Looking at the manual for a slightly different model of Logik TV I see there is a button on the remote control labelled "Aspect".

This should give you the option to change the setting from 16:9 (the normal widescreen setting) to 4:3.

After watching the videos you will probably have to change it back to 16:9 so that the TV looks OK.

Some modern TVs have an auto mode, and will switch the aspect ratio automatically. Another solution, which might be acceptable is to use an Anamorphic setting (if available), which actually does change the ratios within the images in a fairly smooth sort of way, so that most things look fairly sensible - often it'll work OK. Sometimes you'll find reference to Letter box and Pillar box ratios in the settings - rather than 16:9, 4:3 etc - just play around until you get one that looks good. Digital TVs have the ability to do quite a lot of processing in the box.

Yet another possibility is to see if the VCR also has aspect ratio settings - and again, if there's an Auto setting, it might be useful. However many VCRs have essentially analogue circuitry, so may not have all the options possible with more modern digital equipment.
It's years since I watched a VCR.

OTOH, if it's working now, and you can cope with it, maybe best to leave it alone. Good luck, as ever.

Seems a pity to do that if saly can easily change between 16:9 (the normal widescreen setting) and 4:3 just by pressing the Aspect button on her remote control! (On the basis of the L32HED12 user manual. Saly has the L32HED13 but with luck there won't be too much difference.)

Bryn Terfel, etc, and the Aspect button worked like a dream.
