Anyone else plagued by this message from their Firefox browser? I get it even when I open a blank tab first and then close all the others before closing the browser and shutting down the machine. Once I reboot and restart the browser it gives me that message, saying it is having difficulty restoring my tabs, but if I click on Restore it restores all the tabs that I closed previously and don't even want restored.

Why has Firefox started doing this and has anyone found a way of stopping it?

Get rid of Firefox and switch to AVG?

I get it in spasms french frank - I even got around to uninstalling and reinstalling Firefox to get rid of it. That seems to work but what a faff!

I sometimes get this problem with Fire Fox as well, although I have been putting it down to the age of my computer, which by PC standards is well beyond pension age. Perhaps it's not just that though.

Is AVG a browser? I have Safari on both the iMac and the MacBook because certain (Mac) programs only work with Safari. But I use Firefox generally to synchronise my bookmarks with my Windows laptop as well as the Macs.

I've never had this particular problem, or indeed any other problems with Firefox, since I switched to using it from the wretched Explorer about 3 years ago.

Like others, as far as I am aware AVG is not a browser.

I have recently returned to Firefox from Chrome. Not much difference but I prefer Firefox's Find feature to Chrome's. I don't use AVG any more but when I did it was a good and free anti-virus program - hence the AV in its name.

Yes, I investigated AVG and came to the same conclusion. I thought this problem might be related to the latest FF version and googling the title of this thread does bring up similar queries. This time before going out an hour ago I shut down the computer but made sure the browser was just on my normal homepage (which it seldom is after an internet session) before quitting FF, and when I rebooted and reopened FF that was what came up instead of the FF apology! I'm now not certain whether the laptop has been suffering the same problem. I seldom use the Windows machine because it's on Vista and is monumentally slow.

AVG toolbar

While AVG itself functions very well, I uninstalled the AVG toolbar. It produced around 1GB of temporary files a day for a start.

This internet reply seems to have had the most votes:

"hello, this should be addressed in a later version of firefox. as a workaround in the meanwhile you could try this: enter about:config into the firefox location bar (confirm the info message in case it shows up) & search for the preference named browser.sessionstore.resume_from_crash. double-click it and change its value to false."

You do get a warning first about fiddling with such things (the 'info message') but it seems quite straightforward to change true to false. But what if FF should crash (and I can't recall that happening)? I suppose it only means it wouldn't restore your session which wouldn't be too dreadful. Probably. Would any automatic update revert your change?

The problem seems to be that FF thinks it crashed when it didn't.
