    Glitches

Did anyone listen to Sunday's Baroque concert from Tredegar House? I listened on FM. The concert was wonderful, but marred by occasional "glitches", momentary breaks or pauses. There were perhaps 12 -15 of these through the concert. They were short enough not to be a serious distraction, but they did spoil what should have been a highlight broadcast of a fine concert. I am not aware that there was any apology or explanation, though I may have missed this. Does anyone know what was going on? Has this problem affected other broadcasts?

I've just been listening to the iPlayer version. It is faulty with, I think, the problem you heard. Short periods of complete silence lasting perhaps a quarter of a second. No clicks or nasty noises, just complete loss of sound for a moment.

I guess they had a fault on the circuit from Tredegar House in which case they should have noticed it in continuity and apologised. Perhaps the glitches were the result of a changeover from a main circuit to a backup, and then back again. They did seem to be in pairs, and I think there was a slight level change at each glitch.

Despite the glitches, I enjoyed the concert - lots of music that was new to me.

I didn't hear this, but the BBC seemed to have stopped the policy of apologising for transmission errors. At one time they did this on a regional basis, even faults on individual transmitters were announced. We deserve better.
