I would have expected any sound differences to be present when comparing the compressed, lossy, DVD soundtrack to the equivalent lossless high resolution Blu-Ray one. I'd expect the sound differences between the two machines to be minimal or non-existent when playing back a DVD.
I think Steve's expectation is reasonable. I was interested to know if any advance in sonic performance has been achieved during the seven-years between manufacture of the DVD and Blu Ray players. My own experience is that SACD and 24/96 material gives an improved clarity to the sound which I am prepared to pay a little extra for. However, it's often the case that the stuff I'm interested in isn't available in high-resolution anyway. Luckily, I have purchased several SACDs in charity shops and they (and joe public!) don't recognise the format and therefore don't price accordingly.
