What I want to know is why isn't there a link down the bottom of the page to Kernewek? The BBC are Cornish-ist!

Android was 3 or 4% so though they sell plenty of phones, in practice they don't appear to be used widely for Internet access.
http://www.businessinsider.com/mobil...t-share-2012-8 would appear to indicate Android dominates the mobile market - possibly your web site is somehow biased towards Apple fanboys ? as somewhat suprising that the Android phones with all the Google apps (including accurate maps) are not accessing the internet.

Mercifully I never visit the main Radio 3 page, so I do not think this change will affect me. I always go straight to the "Schedules" page, which does not seem to have changed significantly.

they seem to have made it slightly easier to find out if there's a "Discovering Music" programme available for any particular work

........... and some of those programmes are the old-style 45-minute length ones

That link shows sales and not use, which was my point, though I agree that I should have said and was specifically referring to 'web access' rather than 'Internet access'.
(For info; the site is non-technical and typically found via links on the BBC and other news websites so there is no reason why usage patterns should favour any particular device manufacturer. The only caveat would be that the underlying content lends itself to desktop access, which is reflected in shorter visits from mobile users.)

p.s. The Apple maps issues have been grossly exaggerated and in some respects, where there's the data for 'flyover', it's much better than Google's offering. The closest thing to that is from Nokia.

Yes, me too - I have the 'schedules' page bookmarked, not the homepage, to avoid all the guff...
"...the isle is full of noises,
Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
              Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."

Sorry to be dense - but how can you get to the "Schedules" without going first to the homepage?

Just add it to your 'Favourites' while you are on that (Schedules) page.

Or alternatively, just type "radio 3 schedule" into Google, and click on the link.

Or click on the link in the forum homepage sidebar, under Useful links/Radio 3 links
It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

When I heard about this, i was hoping that, when i get the correct phone, I will be able to do what i really want to do, which is catch up with late night shows when I am in my car in the day.
But I guess this is a way off, and probably subject to paying for a huge cost tariff among other things.
                            is this right?
Plus Apple do my head in. I am certain they are leading us all to an ultra controlled world where our every move is observed, and charged !! Paranoid Android I guess !!
I will not be pushed, filed, stamped, indexed, briefed, debriefed or numbered. My life is my own.

I am not a number, I am a free man.

The easiest way would be if the BBC allowed downloads of radio programmes - they don't, and, although the reason seems to revolve around Digital Rights Management I have still to read a clear explanation as to the precise reason (perhaps someone out there...?).

then there's the podcast option - so you can download edited versions of certain programmes (so, explain that DRM thing to me again??)

Or, worst option - use your local 3g network to listen over the phone. Streaming the radio in this way shouldnt be too bad, although again I'd like to know how much data would be involved in streaming a 90 min r3 programme using the different quality options as you're right, it may be expensive unless you have negotiated an 'all you can eat' type phone deal.

There are of course software options whereby you can capture programmes off the radio, download the resultant file to your device and listen away (we usually have the Audacity versus everything else discussion at this point) - but I've never found any software that does that automatically.

Maybe I'll get my precociously talented young cousin to develop such an app - wonder if we'd get enough 0.69p's to make it worth his while...

As for your fears re Apple and global control I really can't help you, except that I do remember reading similar stuff about Microsoft (who they?) in the not so distant past.

you (+ others) might find http://www.gnu.org/philosophy/right-to-read.html relevant to the dystopic world that DRM offers - Apple is merely just another greedy amoral American company currently using the US software patent system (luckily not yet adopted by EU) to keep any competitor away from its walled garden
