Thanks for the replies. I now realise that only having Freeview I am a poor relation compared to Freesat.
Which does sort of raise a question in my mind about what exactly is going on behind the scenes to pull the audio only commentary for blind people. The BBC web post I saw seemed to imply it was because of the 24 extra channels on Freeview (but perhaps I misinterpreted that as a little bit of cognitive dissonance crept in). But as the extra 24 channels are on FreeSat where there is oodles of bandwidth available, I don't follow their reasoning.

BBC has freed up some bandwidth with the closure of the BBC Parliament channel. Even when there's a parliamentary recess it usually shows repeats or documentaries. Freeview will always remain the poor relation. Many of the radio stations which broadcast via freeview have cut their transmission times to free up more bandwidth. Apparently it's surprising how many people listen to the radio via their television. It's much the same when Wimbledon is on too. Sue Barker will tell us we can watch four or five other matches with the red button except on Freeview where there is only one. Although Freesat is free, do you really want a satellite dish fixed to the outside of your house?
