The Firefox browser on my laptop (not Safari, and not on the iMac) won't load any pages. I can see it has updated to 96. whereas the iMac (used less often, and only booted up today to check whether there was a problem) is still on 95.0.2.
As you were. Cleared cache and cookies on laptop .
It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

Been there. Done that. I keep finding images failing to load in FB.

Yes, just discovered a purchased offline book no longer available via the bookmark. Fortunately, now recovered.

The latest stable versions of the Firefox web browser seem to cause connection issues for some users. Firefox 96.0, released this week, appears to be affected.
That looks like a more up to date one for 96.0. I was having no luck with https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb...r-browsers-can. I expect to find the odd annoyances for a while but at least nothing seems to have been lost. Bookmarks still there, though they are synchronised with the iMac anyway.

I set Firefox to only update after asking me. And before updating I always copy my firefix profile (contains my bookmarks and settings) so I can re-instate what I had. After I lost it all on one update.
I find it convenient on password storing but at various turns unreliable and exasperating in other respects - hence being cautious about updates, yet I'm not keen to be driven into the arms of Microsoft (Edge) or Google (Chrome).
I've just reverted mine to 'Always ask me'. I see it did an automatic update to 96.0 yesterday.
That said, I have Safari, Ecosia and Duck Duck Go so it wasn't hard to see the problem was with the browser.

Just days after the release of Firefox 96.0 comes the bug fix update Firefox 96.0.1; the new version fixes a connection issue that affected Firefox users this week.
Firefox was my default for many years but became too slow. I still sometimes use it but (against my instincts) I switched to Microsoft Edge which is noticeably faster. I have now been using it quite happily for a couple of months.
Just checked. Mine got updated to 96.0.1 without notice.
I've had two update notifications yesterday and today which I looked askance at wondering if, now that I've started to rectify the various glitches as they arose, that will all be undone again. Looks as if it will be safe to 'debug' (except that I'd already cleared the cache and cookies ). Meuh. I was obviously not looking in the right place as I was specifically searching for news of bugs in 96.0

Mozilla accidentally kicked legions of users offline last week by an update to its telemetry servers that triggered an existing bug in Firefox. Internally, Mozilla is calling the bug "foxstuck".

Interesting. What's the definition of a "fork"? I did use Pale Moon for a short time a few years ago when Firefox became a bit difficult for some reason.

Firefox (95.0.2) frequently becomes so slow in loading a new site that it gives up and says it can't locate it. At this point I restart my Mac, but I assume there is some other way I should fix this?
