I use Qobuz, so I'm not sure about Spotify. Anyway, Audirvana isn't a streaming service, it's playback software.

The release talks about Qobuz being used in conjunction with Audirvana but I'm a bit out of my depth here!

Lengthy discussion here for anyone to comb through....
As the title says, please use this thread for all the new Audirvãna Studio discussions. I can't share the press release yet - "Information under embargo until Sunday 9 May 18:00 CET"

Earlier versions will still work of course, and Damien is usually pretty responsive about problems (very rare for me & always easily correctable), or you can just check them out via this link. Don't know how long they will be "supported" though.

Haven't looked closely into this yet. But I only use Audirvana/Qobuz for streaming (since 2016), not downloading etc., which simplifies my usage & choices.
May report back later... if it seems unfavourable I would look again at JRiver. Or trial anything else with the Qobuz connection.

But as The Mafia always said, this is just business. Businesses have to be profitable to survive. So they change, we choose....

Yes, that sort of discussion doesn't seem to be going anywhere - seems no-one's saying much. That's why I asked here, thinking that a 60s-80s plus forum would shed some light (I don't even understand a lot of what those younger people are saying).

Perhaps few forum members use Audirvana. I don't know what to do - stay with the original licence, or jump ship onto the subscription medium?

Watch and wait, definitely. As I said, I only use Audirvana because of its perfect streaming integration with Qobuz.
If you organise and playback downloads through it, check out a few alternatives. Be ready. Take free trials (including Audirvana Studio) wherever offered.

That forum (formerly Computer Audiophile) has been long established with some very bright and well-informed users (including many hifi/software designers), so do look in there to see what's what. There will be some user reviews of the Studio version shortly, I'm quite sure.

It is very early days with this change, which the discussion there reflects.... so be like the Wise Old Cat, don't leap upon your prey prematurely, just watch how it moves and what it thinks for a while... there are, after all, many options.
