Can anyone explain to a dimwit like me how to find a past programme using the BBC Sounds App? I can use it to play BBC Radio 3 or 4 live, but digging for past episodes of, for instance Composer of the Week (RVW in this case) seems difficult. The screen seems to be filled with pictures of unwanted stuff. Personally I find Googling easier and quicker. Any advice welcome.

Click on DATABASE on the top and enter the relevant search criteria

The other option is to go onto radio three live and click on past episodes. Do not waste time with the Sounds search facility - it throws up episodes which are not available

Go to the radio 3 icon at the top, you may need to swipe it to reach R3 ( the one with the middle aged bloke ,) and underneath you will see “ Stations and schedules.”

Just click n go.....

I would concur that the BBC's own search 'facility' is anthing but. Internet search engines such as DuckDuckGo tend to be more effective. For the 5 episondes of Composer of the Week, you might just try using the online schedule, https://www.bbc.co.uk/schedules/p00fzl8t/2021/02/08 , scroll down to the programme and go from there. Handy links to the previous and next episode are places to the right of the main programme information. Unfortunately, Sounds does not provide an A-Z option, unlike the iPlayer.

You can get to them from Andrew's playlists - even that's slightly fiddly (but may get easier if you do it often enough) - but it is at least possible to get to the timing of one precise piece. Worth it, probably, for a longer piece. I wouldn't be inclined to bother, unless really keen, for a 4-minute sample.

Its easy even in Sounds is on a smartphone:
1) press on the Search icon (bottom right)
2) into the search bar type Ralph Vaughan
3) observe the appearance below the search bar of Shows
4) click in the only show found: Composer Of The Week
5) scroll down the page to reveal the Episodes
6) The fifth one down is the first from 2021
