I hadn't realised that Apple bumped the price of FCPX up by £100 - but they did. FCP 7 is now considered "vintage"!

Current price of FCPX is indeed £299.

There is, however, a 90 day free trial - plus also there is also other video edit/viewing software available. Depends really what you want to do with the software and the video files. I didn't know whether the latest version also includes Compressor and Motion - which are/were add on packages to work with FCPX, but it seems they are still available as add ons for just under £50 each.

Compressor is useful for some people, though Handbrake, which is free - is often more effective. Depends what you want to do. I often have to use Handbrake to reduce file sizes, or to do format conversions.

iMovie is still free - but may not be suitable - while DaVinci Resolve is a very good package which is still, AFAIK, free to download and use.

There's even an online editing tool now (MovieMaker Online 18 in the linked file) - though that might not be appropriate for anyone who wants to keep their source material private and secure, and Apple also have a newish system which passed me by - Apple Clips - which works on phones and iPads - see https://www.creativebloq.com/feature...-for-designers

I believe that VLC - free - can also do simple video editing - trimming etc. See - for example - https://www.videoproc.com/video-edit...o-with-vlc.htm

QuickTime - which Apple have used to play videos, can also do very limited editing - trimming.

Sorry to put all this here in a thread about Qobuz etc. - but some people may find it useful.

Yes I’m already signed on with Qubuz and when the Audivarna screen loaded in my MacBook Air it prompted me to connect to QUBUZ . Entered email and password and just got an error message. The Qubuz APP works fine on my iPad , iPhone , and iMac running High Sierra. I can only conclude that perhaps Qubuz has a problem with El Capitano which is the os on the MacBook Air. Might just buy a new MacBook with Catalina ...expensive solution but at least I retain my fcp7 edit Prog so it’s effectively £300 cheaper already . OR just put up with the gaps on the operas!

Thanks I do have an alternative for much of what I need to do = Catalyst , but FCP 7 is way better . The problem also is that I’m used to it and having tried FCPx I preferred 7 . I’ve used most of the others you suggest and Fcp and Avid are streets ahead ...

Thanks - didn't know about Catalyst. Will now divert to a new thread in the Tecchie section.

I'm running Qobuz on my iMac running El C without any issues. I'm wondering whether you ought to consider reinstalling your OS X.

Are you running the Qubuz app on El Cap?
What was the final version of El Capitan 10.11.???
Is it weird not to want to upgrade cos you prefer the El Capitan pic to the Sierra or is that just Luddism?

Qobuz fine here on MacAir El Capitan 10.11.6.....check your version, upgrade if necessary...?....
Don't know what else to suggest, sorry...

IIRC, one or twice Qobuz failed to appear in Audirvana+. Logging back in (via the Audirvana streaming page) was tricky. So I upgraded Audirvana to the latest version.... and all was well...and remained so....

                  Yep I’m on 10.11.6

Downloaded the app multiple times through various browsers .

Every time I try to log in I get the same error message “the internet connection has been lost. You are now in offline mode.” Needless to say there is nothing wrong with the internet connection as fas as I can see,

Also uninstalled all avast anti virus software

As I recall you are using a MacBook Air for this - or are you now talking about another machine?
We have found that sometimes Airs do behave differently - particularly ones around the vintage discussed earlier.

It seems perfectly possible to me that there's a machine type issue here, though it probably wouldn't affect desktop iMacs from that period.

                      Yes it’s a MacBook Air 11 inch 2012 , 1.7 ghz intel corei5 , with 4gb memory 1600 MHz DDR3
My iMac is older and runs the app fine , but has High Sierra not El Cap

I can't migrate any further. That's what 12 year old iMacs make you do !

We managed to get High Sierra on our 2011 iMac ..
I reckon iMac prices have gone up by 60-70 percent since then - but it’s not comparing like with like maybe.

Don’t know whether this means anything . I’ve been saying all along that my MacBook Air runs El Cap . That’s because when I go onto the about this Mac - overview - it says OS X El Capitan etc

But in my apps there’s install macOS High Sierra - all 4.7gb of it .
Should explain I bought the Mac second hand with quite a few apps preinstalled .
Maybe I’ve been running High Sierra all along? The wallpaper means nothing because I think you can get a that picture of El Capitano on any OS can’t you ?

I'd have thought that meant you were running El Capitan. Could the previous owner have installed High Sierra and then decided to go back to El Capitan? Possible?
It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

If About This Mac declares version 10.11.6 you have El Capitan.
If it shows 11.12.6 you have Sierra, and if 11.13.6 you have High Sierra.

You might be able to run High Sierra - but take care, as you'll clearly want to keep the apps you've bought with the machine.
I think most of the machines up to around 2012 can be updated to High Sierra. It's unlikely that a Macbook Air can be updated beyond that.

There are some programs which do definitely behave differently on Air models than on iMacs.

If you are happy with it as it is, and you are uncertain about installing a later OS version, then it's perhaps best to leave it alone.
OTOH, with a bit more courage and daring you could probably download High Sierra and install that to an external drive.
If that worked satisfactorily, then you could repeat the install to the hard drive on your Air.
Don't even think of doing that without taking some form of external backup.

Since you have other machines, I suspect that it's best for you to leave this one alone - specifically as it has a program you want to run on it which is currently working.
