    iPlayer - TV - I give up ... (almost)

"You only have to do it once" .... "I told you it was easy"

    My .......

One of our TVs seems to have lost the iPlayer, and I've tried to reset it using the username and password I have written down. Doesn't like it, so eventually I tried to create a new user. Then it tells me that I can't use my own email, as it's already registered.

    Modern technology - useless sometimes.

Hopefully tomorrow will be a better day.

Sounds like the password you wrote down is incorrect. Set up an email address on Outlook or Gmail and use that.

Alternatively if you use a Mac or iPhone you may be able to see your password in Keychain.

Very probably, but this happens all too often. I don't trust devices to keep passwords. Passwords are a complete pain, but I suppose they're sometimes necessary.

I don't mind (occasionally) being told the password is wrong, but then to be unable to fix it - that's inexcusable.

The other problem with doing that is that trying to get a fix for one device which isn't working well, then means that I may have to go round another four or five updating them too, as the details won't be consistent once I make the change.

As for gmail - another source of "issues". Travel outside one's local area and the password often doesn't work. Sometimes I try to fix it. However, leave things completely alone for a day, and sometimes things miraculously start working again. I have noted that many times when going on holiday to different time zones.

Keychain has never let me down. Use it all the time.

But if they made it that easy then any T,D or H could access your account!

Well it will depend on whether you can use the same password again. Or if purely in the Apple eco-system, that's where iCloud is a boon.

Again, never had any problems logging in to my gmail account.

My beef with the BBC is the constant "This content doesn't appear to be available" or somesuch. Happens all the time yet other streaming sources, such as Qobuz, are fine at the same moment in time.

Is there not just a "reset password" button in the Iplayer app on the TV?

Part of the problem is the TV itself. I think it has lost a lot of its memory functions, and not all the HDMI inputs work as they should, and I’ve been reluctant to try a factory reset. Pity, as the picture quality can be very good. I don’t want to fix the iPlayer problem on this one set then have to go round every other device on which iPlayer is currently working to reset those as well.
