There are still sources of the device in the UK. The software it will work with has changed over a few years - I’m not sure what it works with now. It used to work with plugins or web sites in the Chrome browser. I’m not sure about links to mobile phones.

It is pretty good - if it works!

Try MyMemory or Currys - I think one or other of those sites has stocks, and yes - there are some on ebay. I've not tried with a phone, but now I'm tempted to spend a few minutes doing that.

Mmm...I'd avoid Curry's. Still waiting for the new microwave.....one month on and no means of contacting them. It's Ok...a chargeback is in progress. But I certainly wouldn't go anywhere near Curry's.

I did suggest an alternative, which might suit some people more. Good luck with the microwave, or contact your credit card company for a refund and cancellation of the order.Sounds as though you've initiated something along those lines.

Do I understand it aright, Audirvana will become the music player on my laptop, if I acquire it? And improve the sound, before it goes via bluetooth to the hi fi system.

That depends on what you are using now - but it is a very good sounding player. Late to this thread, but a devoted user of Qobuz on Audirvana+ for a few years here, using a modded Macbook with filters linked to the DAC via regenerated USB.

You'd have to download Audirvana first, then install Qobuz Studio Premier from within it using the trialling offer under the "streaming" button. I don't use or know much about bluetooth here, but make sure that the version of Bluetooth you are using does transmit hi-res or lossless files without compromise, because Qobuz only offers those higher standards now (no lossy codec deals etc)....so not much point otherwise.

What’s a regenerated USB out of interest?

The REGEN's primary function is to generate a completely new USB data signal from a carefully chosen USB hub chip running from an ultra low-noise regulator and low-jitter clock—which it does with ideal impedance matching and right at the input of your DAC. Its secondary function is that it interrupts the 5VBUS of the USB cable coming into it, and provides clean 5VBUS on its output—for DACs that need it—via a second ultra low-noise regulator.

I think it's basically a reclocker; sharpens up the timing on the 1's and 0's.

It should reduce jitter, and reduce phase errors. Basically it should produce a bettter sound - but that would also depend on the equipment it was connected to. It might also reduce the error rates, and that could also have a beneficial effect.

Perhaps all you need to know is that some people think it improves the sound quality. If you can hear the difference it does, and if not, then ....

So that’s the key to hearing all these different sounds in Schumann recordings, Jayne! My system is steam driven not stream driven!
