SoundCloud seems like a good resource, which allows many of us to upload sounds, and also search through what others are doing.
Each uploaded track can have tags associated with it, such as the genre of music, the software used to create it, the hardware etc. Several tags can be associated with each track.
It's possible to search and maybe find other pieces which have been tagged in a similar way, and thus to find others who may be doing similar work. However, the order of the tagging seems to make a difference, and what would be really useful - but doesn't seem to be a feature in SoundCloud, is the ability to see all (or at least the first 5) tags associated with each track.
Otherwise refining searches might become a bit random if others have used similar tags, but put them in a different order when they uploaded the track.
Also, some tags may not unfortunately, be very helpful. For example a tag "Reaper" is as likely to find songs which are called Reaper as tracks which were produced with the Reaper DAW. OTOH I guess Protools or Ableton would be less likely to cause such confusion.
A bit more experimentation suggests that being able to view multiple tags depends on whether users are Pro users or not. Sometimes it is possible to see all the tags associated with a track, though whether this depends on the creator being a Pro user, or the viewer I don't know.
