Has anyone ever left a CD player running on repeat got an extended time period?

I've often wondered how long a CD player would last if were just left to play without stopping. Would it catch fire eventually or burn out?

The Second Law of Thermodynamics would ensure eventual failure but I have left a CD of 40 iterations of Satie's Vexations running for 21 repeat plays without any signs of stress, let alone strain.

Thanks, Bryn. The closer ever came was when I recorded the entire 'Beethoven Experience' on Radio3 all those years ago. The mini-disc player ran 24 hours a day for a week with no ill effects.

I used a Pure Bug and Pure Bug Too to the same effect. The maximum size of SD card accommodated by those now ancient DAB devices is 2GB, thus the use of two Bugs. So, around one 24 hours period per SD card. I did the same for the 'Tchaikovsky (and Stravinsky) Experience'.

We had a sort of boom box thing - which was very good and useful. I put in a CD of Haydn keyboard works which seemed to go into an infinite loop. The CD section was never the same after that, and we eventually gave up on tapes too, so although some of the device still worked - and it had a very decent sound - sadly I hurled it into the dump last year.

Classic method for burn-in.....It will be more about the mechanical integrity of the mechanism than anything else...

(after Crocodile Dundee, Knives etc) .... now that's what I call a transport.....!

Where's my taxi? Out of supplies here.... it was so much easier in lockdown....
