Sample instruments - free to use - Philharmonia Orchestra

The Philharmonia Orchestra has produced a set of sound samples which can be used in "virtual" recordings.
According to the site, these can even be used in a restricted commercial way. That is, a "composition" made of a set of these virtual instruments could even be sold on. However, what is not allowed is to sell on a sampler made using those sound samples. That's how I understand reading the page, anyway. If I'm wrong, then hopefully someone will tell me before things get out of hand.

So if you want to make your own compositions - and have your own sampler - you can do so with these samples, and you can even sell on your output. What you can't do is to sell the sampler you may created.

    Here is the link https://philharmonia.co.uk/resources/sound-samples/

I was really surprised to see this, though what I was actually looking for was the Treasure Hunt, in which a violinist - Adrián Varela - has an arrangement of Piazzolla's Libertango - and is challenging us to identify 11 pieces of music embedded in a short video (about 4+a bit minutes).

The Treasure Hunt video is here - from Youtube - https://youtu.be/iZ9OnmKS_1k

There’s also this from Spitfire of the BBCSO - it’s free if you’re prepared to take a survey and then wait 2 weeks, otherwise it’s £49.

Indeed - I did the survey a few days back. If it's really good and I feel generous I may pay anyway, to support the BBC SO, though it's not the only group of people - which includes musicians - which I'd like to support.

I'm not sure if you're into sampling synthesisers. The Philharmonia data set might - with some effort - be turned into something which could be used in compositions - though note the constraints on usage which prohibit selling such a resulting synthesiser. Realisitically, for most people it's going to be far too much bother, and the BBC SO/Spitfire set might be far simpler.

If scores are written (Sibelius, Dorico, Musescore ... the latter for me, as I can't justify the others yet) then Midi can be squirted into a DAW and used with the orchestra set as suggested. It should work.

One issue might be the CPU loading, though I think it's supposed to be fairly low with this particular instrument set. I have recently succeeded in overloading my MBP CPU doing music playback, so it is possible.

In the meantime, did anyone identify the 11 pieces in the Philharmonia "quiz" based on Libertango?
