BBC iPlayer for Radio app to close this month

The BBC will withdraw the iPlayer for Radio app this month in a bid to move users over to the newer BBC Sounds platform.

Pain for me as I use it all day at work and at home and the ordering of downloads by time left gives an order to my listening. As far as I know BBC sounds does not have this.

I'm wondering when the app will actually stop working? I'm about to go on a cruise on Friday and I've bought a cheap Chinese phone just to use an offline mp3 player (works great and avoids the risk of mobile charges) so my plan was on Thursday to go through any recordings on my phone that will expire while I'm away and download them on to the cheapie - just hope it still works on my return!

I have a not very old iPod which is stuck on IOS 9.3.5 and therefore it won’t download Sounds ..... but help is at hand the BBC Sounds help pages tell me all is not lost ..... “If you’re using a device that’s running an operating system below iOS 11, you might be able to install our BBC iPlayer Radio app instead. The BBC iPlayer Radio app is available on iOS 9 and above. Just follow the steps above but search for and install the BBC iPlayer Radio app instead of BBC Sounds.” ..... Excellent indeed ....

But will the iPlayer Radio app still work after it is switched off? I have 24 programmes queued on my iPlayer downloads. I wonder if can automatically transfer them to Sounds, or if I'll just have to download them all again

You're making the mistake, as I did, in thinking that the BBC is interested in any way whatsoever of providing a service that is actually 'Fit for Purpose' and into which category that wretched Sounds thing falls ( as in Not FFP)

Why would it be Fresh Frozen Plasma, or is it, given the fixation on football here, "financial fair play"?

Just to update all, I messaged Sounds via twitter asking about the sorting of downloads. This is actively being worked on along with a dark theme.

I'm not sure if this answers your question but if you go to the home page of the programme to which you wish to listen you can then download the episode you want.
