Not in the slightest, Jayne. I think that maybe Dave2002 and I aren't explaining ourselves very well. In the iPlayer interface, the start of each item of music is delineated with a dot along the timeline. It then becomes so, so easy to click on each dot to listen to the music! No in"ane drivel, no inane exhortations to tweet, to text or listen to excoriating listener tales of "the time I was flossing my teeth and Bernstein/Elgar/Rattle walked into the bathroom singing the Ode to Joy.

Not possible in Sounds.

Like others I installed the Sounds app when it was released and cursed it as a PITA, particularly when wanting to catch up on pieces from the last 28 days. However, I've found that on one of my android devices that the old iplayer radio app still functions perfectly well. So, this is the one I continue to use and works fine. Likewise on the desktop: just go to the R3 schedule homepage and select programmes from there.

The BBC can keep its Sounds app and stick it up its proverbial you know what!

Indeed. But as it still works I, for one, will continue to use it until the suits remove it.

Just thought I'd give it a try as a concert by the BPO was featured in one of their 'You WILL like this' adverts - "Berlin's Best". See the list of Tracks (first black mark, BBC...they are not TRACKS) and a new piece to me - Schoenberg Violin Concerto. Start to play it and decide after a short while it is not for me. So wish to go onto the next item - Stravinsky - but as has already been mentioned, no longer are there any visual clues as to when the next item starts.

OK..maybe they've told us how long the Schoenberg is and that will give me a headstart as to how far to drag the pointer along. Ummm..no. Nothing obvious. Spot three dots in a horizontal line ...maybe it's hidden in there. Nope..link to Spotify and Apple Music and given the redundant information that I am listening to Schoenberg's Violin Concerto...no, s**t Sherlock. Who designs these systems ? Do they actually think how people might want to use their wretched application ?

An aside thought....I bet that if the piece of music being played came from a recording that when I click on those dots that the Spotify link will not be to the same performance/recording. Quick spotcheck (no pun intended)...yup as I thought. Not the same performance and NO indication on the wretched programme website as to the actual CD recording being played.

Pointless commenting or writing to the BBC...they operate a policy of 'We know what is BEST for you'. YOU WILL ENJOY THIS. YOU WILL ENJOY THIS.....I can hear the Dalek intoning this mantra. Hang on, mantra's are supposed to be calming.

As ever, can you please post a link to the Schoenberg/Stravinsky concert you mention?

Can't really see the point of this post other than to confirm you as my very own personal stalker.

The particular concert, programme or performance is pretty much irrelevant since the Sounds interface is consistently laid out pretty much to be 'one-size-fits-all' as it were. The imperfections and poorly designed functionality is across the board and applies to every concert etc.

Besides, I've already told you the name of the 'programme'...Berlin's Best... but I'll give you a little help. Look up at the top lefthand corner ...little box marked 'Search'.

Perhaps if you didn't start your post 'As ever' which IMO was unnecessarily aggressive. As have many of your responses been towards my posts in the past. At times, a response almost before the ink has set, as it were.

Resolved ! What threw me was that there is a discontinuity between what is displayed on the screen and the actual audio.

To get to Afternoon on 3, say, I'd go to the schedule and double-click on it. And lo, it comes up. BUT if the programme is in real-time then you pick up the audio stream for live R3 but the screen image from Afternoon on 3. So if you come back at a later time (or even day), the audio stream is still live R3 but the onscreen image hasn't changed.

Hence the confusion. Especially if you hit Pause and only return to the programme some hours or even days later as the audio will be playing whatever happens to be on R3 Live and yet the screen image is still suggesting that you're listening to Afternoon on 3.
