    Demise of iTunes

Not sure if this is good or bad news - https://www.theringer.com/tech/2019/...=pocket-newtab

On the one hand the iTunes software has/did become bloated, and a pain to use sometimes, but on the other hand it has provided a viable way to create and organise quite large collections of ripped music.

Using iTunes for others purposes such as backups for external devices - complete pain - but sometimes perhaps necessary.

On a few occasions I even bought tracks from the iTunes store.

In what ways will this affect the set-up we already have (an ignoramus asks)? I know nothing other than that it's 64-bit so won't stop working with Catalina.
It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

I talked with an Apple Support person yesterday about an unrelated matter and at the end of the call I asked about iTunes.
I think the news story is about the iTunes download store, which sells music, video, and video games. It is being broken up into its constituent parts. Any purchased material will be still be available.

How unusual for a news report to get quite the wrong end of the stick.

Well, that doesn't seem to be something for me to wrestle with, unlike whether my FTP software will be upgraded in time …

Some information about the change from Apple...

Learn to use Apple Music on Mac to listen to all the music in your collection, discover new artists, and add more songs to your library.

Well, everyone has to be right about something

As I understand it, Catalina will only work with 64-bit programs (and companies like Epson still haven't yet upgraded all their printer/scanner software). Small developers, like Jim Matthews with Fetch, may or may not be able to upgrade. That seems more of a problem than iTunes.

                  I didn't know about Catalina - until now - https://www.businessinsider.com/appl...19-6?r=US&IR=T

May turn out to be relatively benign, but might still require some minding and reconfiguration to keep things working. Extra effort I could do without, perhaps.

Yeah - sure. I don't want to be bumped back towards Windows (... makes sound of throwing up ...) , or to have to invest in some other software in order to avoid problems which I don't have right now. Hopefully it'll work out OK, but forewarned is forearmed, as they say.

Using an ipad as a second wirelessly connected display is going to be very useful to me, although Max can already do that more or less easily, but I imagine that when/if I upgrade, which is probably not going to be until the present machine is replaced, my first act as usual will be to trash the iTunes application, which will now involve three times as much effort. Never mind.

I've been to Catalina. I went swimming there, and, sitting on the beach afterwards, saw a very large fin sticking out of the water not far from where I'd just been.

Poor shark, it probably just wanted some trans-species communication, a hug, a pat on the head, or a few curious noises...

So it's not just me then - is the weather bad everywhere in the UK?

I'm not going back to bed, though.
