I am almost getting close to at least partly answering the question posed when this thread was opened. There are still (for me) questions regarding multiple voices for some hardware and software implementations.
Apart from MuseScore.com - which has scores which can be turned into midi files, there is this site - https://www.midiworld.com/classic.htm#t Midiworld, which can also be used as source of test files - or to generate an accompaniment - or for whatever purpose you will.
There are also some Midi files (which work) to be found within IMSLP - such as these for Bach's Brandenburg concerto 4.
Depending on how the Midi files have been generated, some of these may produce acceptably decent score renditions if fed into tools such as MuseScore (Sibelius, Dorico etc.) - though some Midi files turn into rather poor scores if that is attempted.
