    I forgot how to …

… add a new email account to my MacBook (yes, I've looked up all the instructions).

This is a btinternet.com sub account. It exists, I can send emails to it and I can view them on the BT webmail page. But I can't see how to enter it on to the MacBook in order to receive the messages.

Whichever route I take Mail > Preferences, Add Account, Accounts + I choose, it's the same routine:

Enter email address, enter password, Sign In - and the little cog goes round and round and round and round, but can't seem to validate the address. Same on iMac and iPhone

I've done this so many times before and each time I seem to have this snag until something actually works.

I don't get as far as setting anything up: it just asks for the (new) email address and password.

I have three other btinternet accounts and they're set up for IMAP.
