    I note the comment about Ernest Ansermet mentioning recordings, and that they were good, but that he wasn't allowed to give details.

    There's also a joke, that the musicians were not told, as otherwise they might have wanted to be paid double!

    Fascinating albeit lengthy and something of a walk down memory lane especially the references to the London Audio Fair held at The Russell Hotel when I regularly attended. Many thanks for posting the article.

      Ansermet’s three boxes - European, French and Russian are certainly testament to his recording quality.

        This is not entirely a joke. According to John Culshaw's autobiography, the was concern that some artists would ask for more.
