Is there a way to get Spotify to play a WAV file? A friend sent me a WAV recording which I've tried to convert to MP3 so that Spotify would play it but it is rejected. Grateful for any suggestions.

Is it possible to load one's own music on to Spotify - sorry I don't use it, so that is a genuine question.
Not sure if you are on the Apple or not side of the divide. Doesn't your computer have a player - on Wndows 7 Windows Media Player would (I imagine) at least play it so you could hear it, and there must be an apple equivalent. Or other music playing programs...
If you have difficulty &/or unfamiliarity with converting the format, maybe get someone to help - as its a one-off?
(Sorry, I don't use Spotify, so I realise I'm not exactly helping with your original question).

The reason for all this palaver is that I want to listen to the WAV -a wonderful performance of Schubert's G major sonata by Yuri Paterson-Olenich - on decent speakers via Chromecast from Spotify. Even better if I could cast from the WAV but I don't have the equipment for that.

One possibility is that Spotify is doing a check on DRM, and thinks the video file is copyrighted/DRM protected. It says in the notes on uploading local files that it won't do those if they are not DRM/copyright free.
Are you running on Windows or on some other OS? You mention Quicktime, and that suggests Apple. I believe there were versions of Quicktime which ran on Windows, but those were withdrawn a year or two back. It's still possible to run Quicktime on Apple kit.
