Mojave: Into the Unknown

Just downloaded and installed Mojave on the MacBook. Took about an hour, and so far … I must say they've made a great deal of the Dark Mode interface, but I think I'll stick with the usual Light. The desktop seems to be twilight at the moment - I wonder if the sun will have risen on the desert by tomorrow?

The new desktop stacks sound quite useful but I haven't explored that yet. I have to confess to using the desktop for plonking down anything and everything. Gets a bit cluttered so a little helper might be welcome.

Mac users not yet interested in Mojave, I see. However I have to report that the sun did indeed arise on the desert this morning, turning the desktop sands a delicate yellow. I think I may find this a bit distracting if it's going to keep changing depending on the ambient light. Or will it just change according to the clock [yes, that, I discover]? Can I just change this dynamic wallpaper to my old solid green background or will there be an angry sandstorm?

I’ve been using Mojave for a few weeks. No snags so far.

I just have a plain plain grey background, not interested in the dynamic stuff.

I’m still trying dark mode on the basis that change almost always looks worse in the short term.

The potentially most most useful feature is the ability to effectively turn my phone into a scanner by taking a photo and the photograph appearing in a Mac document. Haven’t had a chance to try it so far.

I’ve just tried it and it worked. Right clicked in Pages, selected “Take Photo”. That opened up the camera app on the iPhone. Took a photo and then selected the option to use the photo just taken. Once selected the photo appeared in the Pages document.

Thanks. It sounds like what I've been trying to do. Like many others I get a 'Device is timed out' message after I've taken the photo and watched it not appear.

Incidentally, when I click 'Insert' (or CTRL click) there are three options: [My] Phone, Take Photo and Scan Documents. The [My] Phone option is always greyed out, which may not matter, since I want Take Photo, but I don't understand why it's there if you can't use it.

Hmm. What's not happening is that Take Photo doesn't open the camera app. So, I opened the app manually in readiness and - same result. At least I don't appear to be alone … and I've tried everything that's been suggested. I'm in the group for whom nothing works

Finally - it works. I was logged in with my Apple ID on both machines, but something needed to be validated. Not sure what but I just did as I was directed and that worked. Next will be scanning documents

FF, glad to hear it worked. I haven’t tried scanning yet.

One snag about the photo option 'Take Photo' is that I very seldom use a photo, from the phone or separate camera, without cropping/editing it. So inserting a raw photo may either not save much time because I want to fiddle with it in some way, or keep taking new photos until I get something I'm satisfied with. Even the phone camera has the facility to edit, whereas with this system the photo isn't even retained in the phone. Or have I missed something obvious?

Scanning with the phone might be more useful, but even here I see objections. No sign that any of my apps no longer work, so I may install Mojave on the iMac soon!

FF, I too noticed that the photo wasn’t saved on the phone. I can’t really think of why I’d put a photo in a document, but a scan could be useful.

Hopefully other applications (MS Office etc.) will have the same facility before too long.

That too - I don't use Pages, and I certainly haven't fathomed out to use it on the iPhone (not that I can see that I'd want to)!

Yet another new Mac OS - Mojave

I'm really not convinced that this is going to be an improvement - part of the never ending churn.
