Originally posted by Bryn View PostI find this very surprising indeed. Over the decades since the CD was introduced I have had many, many CD playing devices and have never come across one that did not have gapless play in standard CD mode. Mp3 mode is a different matter entirely. My current Oppo deck also offers gapless playback of FLACs, but not mp3s or m4a/aac.

Neither I was only referring to stand alone devices. From minimal cost pocket-size, through a range of ghetto-blaster types to CD and DVD players (both portable and static), none have failed to playback gaplessly. Where the CDs themselves had on-disc 2 second gaps, they were, of course, observed, but that tends not to be the case with 'classical' CDs.

Originally posted by Anastasius View PostIn theory, yes, but in practice I very much doubt it. You're hoping that the store will have the model that you want and on demo and that's even before you realise that the nearest John Lewis of note is 100 miles way!
