It's Mayday, so here's the WIndows 10 'April' update.

If you have a Windows 10 installation, expect a very long wait for it to restart after it has downloaded and installed the most recent update, the so-called "April Update" made available today. I hope it's worth it. Once updated you have to decide how much information you want to share with Microsoft before you can actually use it. What ever you choose, you still get unwanted advertising.

Windows 10: stealthy, in cahoots with we never know whom, impervious to the building global disaffection, foisting all manner of pretty well useless and irrelvenat 'add-ons' on us.

I have had five Windows 10 laptops updating to the 'April' version today. Each have taken well over an hour, and two are still chugging through the process. It must cost those on data limits a bomb to update.

Sorry, I forgot about the slowest and smallest one. So that makes six. That little HP literally took all night.

My iMac told Microsoft to go away and stop bothering it. Quite why anyone still actually uses Microsoft is beyond my ken.

Every Apple product I have had the misfortune to buy or use has failed in some way. The they don't even handle mp2 or FLAC files without third party assistance.

If Apple's hardware reliability was that poor then they'd not have billions and billions of dollars lying in their bank accounts.

And there are plenty of software formats that Microsoft doesn't handle without third party assistance.

                  Every piece of technology fails
I've never had any problems with mp2, FLAC etc with OSX ?
(I don't really use Apple software very much though)

Oh, that explains why I had to twiddle my thumbs for so long yesterday.

I'm tied to Windows 10 for the month I'm spending in Watford. I may try to escape back home for a day or two to be with my beloved iMac (and even better Acorn RISC PC).

I see what you mean Bryn! My computer decided to install this "April Update" today and it's still chuntering on...

                      ... let's hope it's finished by JUNE!

Edit:. Is this genuine Microsoft? - my laptop now displays the black screen of death

And now, when typing double inverted commas, FGS, I'm getting @.
                        Why?

                        And when I type @, I am getting "
                        ....why?

For some reason your keyboard has been reset to US specification.

As a Windows 10 user who recently installed updates, I thought I'd just better check:
                            @
                            ""
                            Phew!

My latest Windows 10 update (just over a week ago, I think) seems to have passed off uneventfully....
