Not necessarily legal - depends where you show it, and to whom.

Can be tricky to cue up on exact sections, so for some applications too clunky.

Plus DVD players are not so portable.

We do use them (DVDs), though we hardly bother with video cassettes now.

Are there any DVD players which are controllable, and can be linked to software such as Powerpoint?

Maybe some pro stuff, but pehaps not consumer kit. I suspect pros wouldn't work that way now, anyway.
