Beware the potential pitfalls of Windows 10 1703

I have successfully 'upgraded' two laptops to the new "Creators Update". Not without a struggle, however. One surprise was that the AMD powered HP Envy which gave so many problems with Windows updates earlier in the year was much less problematic this time. The other success was with an i7 powered HP. That took ages but seems to be running well. so far. Two other laptops, both i3 powered Acers, have either simply refused the update or failed in the attempt and lost touchpad functionality in the process (back to using a USB mouse with that one).

The cover of the current issue of "Computer active" caught my eye in Waitrose today, "WINDOWS UPDATE WARNING Make sure your PC survives the latest changes" "10-STEP PLANIN SIDE". Hopefully the £1.99 cover price will save a bit of trial and error with the recalcitrant laptops.

Two updates this evening, one tidying up Window 10 1709 and the other a revamped and speedier Firefox. O.k., sure it's faster, but why move everything around. Reload shifted from right to left of page, and all sorts of other seemingly uncalled for 'tweaks'. If it ann't broke, why fix it? It's like when you go to your regular supermarket and the stock has all been relocated to new aisles and shelves.

Windows 10 just asked me if I'd recommend it to friends. I said no way. Finicky, got a mind of its own and moves things around, screen displays are way, way too fussy, cluttered, back-up is always via web addresses they re-direct you to. Got used to it, but still HATE it.
Since I returned q'aire online, guess what? All gone quiet over there.

Since there are already over half a billion Win 10 installations, it's unlikely Satya Nadella will read your contribution in the next 1,000 years ...

Firefox has just updated ... looks a bit different and may be a bit faster but some extensions have vanished eg Flagfox (info about the current site), Copy Plain Text via right click, GoToTop arrow on toolbar. Where is the download info icon that used to be on the right of the top toolbar?

The button three in from top right gives a drop-0down menu with "Downloads" among its options.

Thanks. By fiddling around with "Customize" I managed to get "Downloads" back as a separate button and also found replacements for the extensions I missed. It does seem to be faster so I can have no complaints really.

I still get automatic updates fo rmy Windows 7 - notwithstanding warnings for many months now from my computer whizz that life as we know it is on the point of expiring.
