It’s not that I find all the “improvements” Apple makes to its systems bad, but rather that they happen and then effectively make one’s system less useful until the arcane “secret” is found. Sometimes this may be by explicit web searching, and sometimes by accident.
The latest that I’ve noticed is that search by swiping down from the top no longer works.
After some while and investigation it may be found that plonking a finger in the middle of the screen and then drawing sideways does make the search box visible. The finger has to be placed between icons/buttons, and then pulled to the right. This only works if the “home” page contains icons - see the next paragraph. This may not work on all devices. I’m on 11.0.1 - not bothered with .0.2 yet.
A new feature seems to be the double click on the home button, which now (on an iPad Pro) brings up a pane of previously used apps - that does appear to be useful. In this mode the plonk finger then draw sideways (previous para) procedure goes forward and backwards through previously used apps.
Some of Apple’s changes are very unhelpful, and require a lot of investigation to find and/or overcome. They are also sometimes application specific. I still find the lack of a decent file system, and the notion that Apple knows better than the average user what each user “wants” a total pain.
