Has anyone spotted where the lossless feed for this year's Proms is to be found? I suppose it may again be in the "Taster" section of the BBC website, but that seems a bit obscure.
Proms 2017 in FLAC

No sign yet. The info a few months ago was to visit either the Proms or Radio 3 homepages, where the feed would be accessed... you may still need to to do this in Firefox of course.... who knows...? Get it running in any case, if you haven't already...
All we can do is hang loose on Friday, then when you spot it, dive in.....

They're certainly not shouting about it from the rooftops are they?
My feeling is that they're hoping we've all forgotten about it and it can be allowed to die a quiet, unlamented death. Problems with rights, IIRC, called a premature end to the fun first time around, and they're unlikely to have been resolved in the short intervening period.

You may be right, Sir Velo.
OTOH, let us hope that it being "The BBC Proms" - I reckon any and all announcements have to go through some central media point - all mentions of the Proms seem to be very carefully controlled / stage managed / at programme level frequency of tie-ins/mentions/plugs enforced. So they may decide news of the FLAC stream is to be released at a particular point in the ramping up of anticipation. So - here's hoping..........

The Proms website link is on this page - it links to the old experimental page. Presumably it will link elsewhere from Friday ......

Given what the Taster page says, it may simply be that we'll listen to the "2nd Stage of the Trial" from the same place as before...

now states that "the next phase of the trial will be during the BBC Proms 2017" - I thought the whole of the prom season was to be broadcast this way? Looks like the BBC are back-tracking
... we'll soon find out... anything can happen in the next 24 hours.....!

The Radio FLAC appears to be streaming at the moment and can be played using the VLC 3.0.0 nightly builds, using the same URL as before:
Code:https://vs-dash-ww-rd-live.bbcfmt.hs.llnwd.net/al/lossless/client_manifest.mpd
However, I can't see any links to the stream on the BBC website.

Seems to be there - link seems to be different from previous trial:
Listen to BBC Radio 3 and the BBC Proms live in the highest audio quality the BBC has ever broadcast. It sounds so good it’ll feel like you’re actually at the Royal Albert Hall.
I take back what I said earlier!! Just tried it and it is seemingly working.

That's the surprising bit. They have got coverage in many quarters about the "Concert Sound" but the best they've managed is to point to a defunct experimental page with little help to listeners in terms of how to access the stream. If one were to be cynical, one might assume that they were doing their best to make it as inaccessible as possible to damp down future demand.
but you do have to be running Firefox 51 (or later) to use it. Won't work in Safari.
Incidentally, Jim Lesurf has a piece on it in August's HiFiNews, ("The best Proms ever?") going into some detail about capturing the stream using the FFmpeg AV Utility. He concludes "Not a process most listeners could be expected to wade through happily.."
Quite...
I'll be quite content to lie back and enjoy it, as Tommy Vance used to say....Last edited by jayne lee wilson; 14-07-17, 16:00.
