Yesterday the Firefox (53.0.2) running on my PC suddenly refused to start.
After de-installing and reinstalling, then doing a totally clean install - all to no avail - I discovered that, without any warning that I am aware of, Mozilla tightened up on video drivers that it blocks. My Nvidia driver was two years old. I downloaded and installed the current driver and suddenly Firefox started working again.
Mind you, because I had done a clean install, I then had to copy my original profile over and edit the profile.ini file in order to get back the bookmarks, etc, etc.
I'm posting this in case someone else hits a similar issue with Firefox
