Attaching replacement ear pads to headphones.

I have a pair of Sennheiser HD540 headphones from the 1980s. They sound superb, and I don't want to part with them. The ear pads are badly worn, so I ordered a new pair of these. However, the original pads are held on to the headset by plastic clips. The old pads are glued to these clips. The new pads do not have these clips, so I must carefully remove the old pads and glue the new ones on to the old clips.

Not wishing to make a silly mistake, can anyone advise on this - in particular, is there a suitable glue for connecting the hard and soft plastics?

I'd just use a glue gun

(and get a pair of headphones with replaceable ear pads next time )

Thanks. I contacted them, and the headphones were older than the technician I spoke to. However, he checked with someone who knew and said superglue (used carefully) was the best bet.

Thank you again for the suggestions (esp. Zucchini). With careful removable of the old padding, and even more careful use of superglue, the 30+ year-old headphones are as good as new.

What a wonderful place this forum is … but:

Having this morning received my Sennheiser replacement earpads, and meaning to go out to get some superglue, I discover a small packet of something which has no explanation or instructions. Is it likely to be a small piece of complimentary nougat or white chewing gum or something intended to stick the pads on with? Mine being a somewhat cheaper model of headset (by the look of it) than Alpie's, there is just a plastic face to stick the pads to, no clips.

Sort of silica gel probably - you stuff it in the headphones and it dewaxes your ears for you and you'll never be able to listen to Mahler or R Strauss again.

But if you ate it, it'll be sucking your blood right now, turning it into snooker balls and you'll start rattling in a few hours ....

I'm certainly not feeling like eating this evening. Though that might be more to do with the very good lamb moussaka and baklava that I had for lunch, rather than eating the silica gel … (it was strawberry flavoured btw).
