Why won't Firefox let me google anything?

I've just had this message:

The owner of www.google.com has configured their web site improperly. To protect your information from being stolen, Firefox has not connected to this web site.

What's going on?

I've had a few messages like that now and again recently. Slightly irritating at the time but there's usually some inexplicable correction.

I've got one you can have. I bought it on holiday because I forgot to pack my camera charger. It's a universal, small battery gadget, for phones and things.
