    Headphone pads

Never quite sure whether to post items like this on P3, or here....

I have a pair of Beyerdynamic DTX900 earphones, which nowadays tend to travel with me. The phones are great, but the pads, both round the ears, and over the actual transducers, are now showing severe signs of wear, and I'm afraid they're not as clean as they once were. Are replacement pads and surrounds available, and also, how would I fit them if so?

This must surely be a fairly common problem, though perhaps the manufacturers simply hope we'll throw them and buy new.

    Try https://www.amazon.co.uk/Beyerdynami.../dp/B001BYL5YE

If they are the wrong size, try https://www.aliexpress.com/store/pro...221840082.html (Note: The apparently high price is for 5 pairs.)

      Thanks!

Hopefully the first of these will be the right size. Mine are black and seem to be velour. I don't know if there's any reasonable way of cleaning them - toothbrush, plus a small amount of soapy water perhaps?
      Then dried off carefully.

I"ve had the phones for quite a while now, and it'd be a shame to have to bin/replace them. New pads, even of the "wrong" colour could make quite a difference. I think it's certainly worth a try with the new sets, even at around £20.

A slight digression - I have some Wharfedale Isodynamics, but the foam is completely shot. I did try to get them going, but was surprised at how hard they are/were to drive. I used to have kit which would drive them easily through the large jack socket, but I don't think they make equipment like that now. They certainly used to sound very good, though possibly the Beyerdynamics are similar, and I can drive them with most of my gadgets etc., and I'm sure there are significantly improved headphones now available - at a price. At the time they were affordable, which some more esoteric headphones were, for me, not.

I had a very embarrassing experience with these pads! I have a pair of Bose noise cancelling headphones which I had used for the gym and they served me very well. However, I took them on a long haul flight to New York and was appalled when a very forthright American lady said 'there's a funny smell coming from you!' Of course, the sweat from many gym sessions had built up in the pads and we're giving off an odour to which I was oblivious!

Of course I replaced them in N.Y., N.Y. but they were VERY expensive!

I had the same problem with a pair of cheap blue tooth phones, only I noticed the stink before anyone else had the temerity to point it out. It isn't surprising--our ears get very hot when exercising normally as the body is diverting blood there for cooling--when the phone clamp on the sweat builds up and depending on the make of the pads they can act like sponges.
I am wondering how the OP wore out his BeyerDynamic pads. Does Dave listen with them for hours on end? I only use headphones when I have to. No matter how fancy they get, it's still mono in each ear

I don't always - or indeed often - experience that.
Sometimes the sound on headphones is so realistic that I think there are people around me - though I agree this isn't always the case.

I'll try to think of a plausible answer re the state of my ear pads later!
