    iPad connections

I currently have two iPads. One is a 1st generation - somewhat challenged, but it does have 3G connectivity. The other is a recent iPad Pro, but I've not bothered to put a SIM card in it yet. Mostly I can work the two cooperatively, if I'm near an infrastructure router to which I have access. If not, then can I transfer data from one to the other somehow - Bluetooth or ad-hoc wi-fi connection?

For example, if I get a PDF file via email (3G) on the first gen machine, how can I copy it to the other. Also, if I take a photo on the Pro, how can I get it to the 1st gen iPad so that I can email it to someone else? I would like to be able to write "surely there must be a way", but I'm really not sure.

If both iPads were fairly recent then you could use Airdrop to share information between them, but I doubt that the original iPad will support that.

There are some apps in the app store that can share files using Bluetooth, but haven't used anything like that for a long time, so don't know how effective they are.

      iCloud ?

      Dropbox ?

      Or 'Open wallet....apply SIM'.

Not a chance. I'm afraid. Airdrop is iOS 7 or later. Pretty sure a 1st gen iPad won't run that version.
