I recently found out about a tool which works with iPads and MacOS X, called Duet Display - http://www.duetdisplay.com/
At first this is a bit confusing, and also not absolutely trivial to set up. It works with Mavericks and above, but not down to Mountain Lion or Snow Leopard.
It can be used to either mirror a display, or extend it - which can be confusing as the cursor might seem to disappear.
Also, some (all?) input functions do work on an iPad Pro. Set the cursor in a browser window on the iPad display, and then it's possible to move things around by touch. In my case I then have to touch to the left hand side of the iPad, and then move the mouse slightly left to get the cursor back to the iMac desktop screen.
I'm not sure if this is going to be a big game changer, but my initial attempts at getting this to work were a complete failure, but now, an hour later, things seem a lot better, and it may turn out to be useful.
Anyway, - I told you! Currently the iPad app is at a reduced price - under £10 - probably around £7-8.
It's probably not good enough (fast enough) for some applications - such as video editing - but I'm working on that.
If anyone else tries it and finds it useful (or not) please give your experiences here.
