Any earplug recommendations for protecting one's hearing at concerts?

Apologies if we've had this before - I had a good search around the forum, but couldn't find anything....

The question is, does anyone have a good recommendation for earplugs to protect one's ears at concerts, especially rock concerts?

I've met folks who use and like these

Detailed Product Information on Alpine MusicSafe Pro - Silver Edition at www.thomann.de

seem to be the preferred ones unless you go for the custom fitted type

For years there have been these around the house for general uses - snorers, noisy neighbours, external works, getting sleep in planes etc - and they would do perfectly well for concerts. Easy to use and very effective

      £7.50 for 50 pairs. Sorted.
"...the isle is full of noises,
Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
      Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."

Thanks Caliban - I saw those on Amazon, but wasn't sure whether they would block out some of the wanted frequencies, too.

Thanks MrGG. I don't think I'll go to the trouble of the fitted type (all that 'what side do you dress palaver?' etc). I need to think about whether any extra expense over the ones Caliban referred to would bring tangible benefits.

Great if you want to do power tools BUT work by muffling all the high frequencies
what you need if you want to hear the sound is something that evenly attenuates the sound
Using the foam type would mean a waste of time going imv

Yes - I have no specific knowledge of the details of 'frequency' blocking with those plugs (cf also Mr GG's post). Using a new pair seems to block equally up and down the spectrum. They've come in especially handy over the last two years as a hotel has been demolished and rebuilt into flats about 6 feet (at the closest) from the bedroom windows. The work has started at 8am every weekday - the yellow EARfit plugs have permitted sleep through all but the most adjacent drilling (which was like someone standing on the bed firing a machine gun).

The only time I used them for a concert was when - for work purposes - I attended a 'Westlife' gig at Wembley Arena... and at that point none of the frequencies were particularly 'wanted' The plugs did the job!

I suspect the extra expense might be worth it (as per my post #5).

I'm quite tolerant of the various music forms, but Westlife!!??

One could lie on a bed of nails, and take strong painkillers to avoid distress. Alternatively, one could just avoid the bed of nails.

However, there are have been occasions when I've played in concerts, sitting close to trombones or a tam-tam, so I invested in these, which are very effective and can be adjusted to suit three levels of sound:-

Perhaps Sir would prefer the... ahem... "Party Plug" - advertised on the same page?

I am curious about one bit of the description: 'Keeps water out of the air' - what water? what air? How? and Why?
