Garrard 201 motor, Rega 78 turntable, Project preamp

I have a Garrard electric induction motor type 201 which runs off the mains and it has run but not for a while. At present, after almost criminal neglect, it doesn't run when in usual position but will perform grudgingly when the motor axis is horizontal. I see that there is a cap at the lowest point of the chassis with what looks like an oil-can symbol and elsewhere on the web the subject of replenishing the reservoir is mentioned. Does anyone know about this venerable object and its maintenance? What kind of oil and how much and is the cap mentioned the correct refilling entry? All advice gratefully received.
I also have a Rega Planar 78 and a Project Phonobox SE surplus to requirements. If anyone would like either or both and be willing to come and collect them please PM me. I live in West London.

I have no idea, but I think a few drops of 3 in 1 should help.

I'd go with that too, though some very fastidious enthusiasts might tell you otherwise. If it's not been used for a while, then maybe olive oil would work, or use WD40 - but don't run it leave it for a while then turn it over briefly - maybe even just hand turning - then use something else - maybe 3 in 1 to flush out the WD 40. Just don't send me a bill if it doesn't work!

I think this might tell you what you need about suitable oil?
        Or a place to ask

I think I still have a little bottle of oil that came with my - long gone - Garrard 301. You're welcome to that if you PM me.

I think I may also have some - spotted on occasions while climbing into my loft or garage. I can't guarantee to find it. The only concern there would be that I suspected that the oil deteriorates with age, so although it was once approved, it might not be good now. That is admittedly just a hunch, but worth checking. A modern equivalent might be just as good or better, and the issue of freeing the motor up remains - the ingredients required for that might be different. I think a very thin oil might be good initially to flush out any dirt etc., but not under load. Perhaps even heat it to reduce the viscosity.

Thankyou for your offers, by chance it appears that the Loricraft Garrard facility in/near Lambourne have some residual Garrard 201 expertise and they have offered some help.
