    Search Engines

I read somewhere that Google has less than 50% of the search engine business. Personally I am very tired of their algorithms, and of my latest Google searches suddenly showing up when I go to another site. The only other SE that I know is Apple Safari ( which is now Yahoo?). What do others recommend and what are the strengths and weaknesses of other SE?

I abjure Google entirely and use duckduckgo - though I'm unsure how well that would work in the US, Richard. They promise not to retain or resell our data.

PC magazine's top alternatives to Google (DuckDuckGo and Ecosia are generally considered good things in a bad world):

Are you worried about anticompetitive practices or privacy, or maybe you just want new search results? These 15 search engines beat Google in many ways, from anonymous browsing to curated content.

It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

Seconded. I've used DuckDuckGo for several years, but occasionally resort to Google or Safari when I adjudge that the little cartoon duck hasn't cast his net widely enough. Not often, 'as it 'appens...

          Mustn't grouse, though.

DuckDuckGo is mostly Microsoft Bing without the creepy tracking
There is also Brave search that is independent from either Bing or Google
Search the Web. Privately. Truly useful results, AI-powered answers, & more. All from an independent index. No profiling, no bias, no Big Tech.

I also use the Duck with Bing (and have for several years too) although Bing doesn't work with some websites and I have to resort to Chrome.

I read today that ChatGPT Search is in some ways better than Google Search. Not yet tried.
