I think I need to create new law. Anastasius Law. As operating systems and apps become ever more complex, offering more and more facilities that only 0.0000000000000000000001% of Homo Sapiens actually uses, the likelihood of being able to use older equipment with the latest versions diminishes to zero.

As also does the likelihood that the company/ies responsible wlll have any concerns about any potential loss of revenue due to loss of customer confidence and satisfaction from such "innovative" developments. Perhaps this needs a power law, e.g 0.1^n % where n is the number of years since the original hardware was released.
Do you only have one machine, running Yosemite?
.............
I'd suggest that you assess the risks to you before trying anything like this, and what it would mean to you if there's a failure.
My feeling is that the software will probably work, and you won't lose anything, but I won't accept responsibility if it doesn't!
The Xilisoft tool worked for me.
If you do try the Yosemite tool please let us know how well it works. You may want it for a slightly different resson from me. I wanted to recover files, but was otherwise not too worried about continuing with iTunes. You may want to replace iTunes completely, so the user interface will be important for you.
Good luck!
Thanks, Dave (and others)
Yes, only one Mac running Yosemite.
And only copies of existing CDs on it: nothing downloaded through iTunes.
Was talking to someone yesterday who has no problems, so I need to investigate a little further (check synching settings etc) before taking the plunge.
