Inserting a picture on the Forum

With the new Forum format, I am at a loss to know how to cut and paste a picture into a text - the icon that we had on the old site doesn't seem to exist. Can anyone help?

When you Post Reply and get the message window, you should see the IMAGE icon, to the right of the link icon and just left of the video icon (hover to see what the links are). You paste the url into the pop-up window.

I can't find the IMAGE icon, sorry! When I post reply, all I seem to get is the emoticons. All very frustrating, I'd only just learned how to do it correctly on the old site!

Well in this forum direct image upload seems (quite sensibly) disabled.
When I click the Image icon I see:


I circled in red the rather cryptic indication that images can't be uploaded, or indeed attached by me.
So instead I uploaded the above image to my favourite image-hosting site
(https://postimages.org/ lets me post images without need to register or login)
which lets me copy the Direct link to the newly uploaded image - by clicking on a white blue copy-icon on the right.
That puts the link in my clipboard ready to paste it into the URL box -- see image above.
The I press OK.

You might need to click on the "A" to the left of the smilie above the box labelled "Write something", to reveal a menu bar.

Ha ha, thank you folks, just did a successful test - in fact Andrew's message was all I needed - click on the A button to reveal the other menu bar! Ah, technology, it's so easy when you know how!

and for those ancient enough to have been taught to read, find that now it is necessary to wade through unwanted, often irrelevant, large slabs of coloured wallpaper - the new forum format already means I only visit at longer intervals.

Depends where you draw the line - but as (perhaps) a relative newbie on the planet* I did learn to read. I, however do not find it too difficult to scroll across the wallpaper.

Ignoring the irony, I read well enough to see what Frances-i-om has written. but three university degrees haven't equipped me to understand what she is taking issue with. After some uncomfortable weeks on the new forum, I can now navigate round it to find what I want to read pretty efficiently and am barely affected by any coloured wallpaper. I read what I want to read and then go.

In general, I would concur. However, I still find it frustrating to have to re-login if I head off for a few minutes to a site on another tab (while leaving the Forum tab open), or even if I just fail to post on the Forum for a a few more minutes.

That is a real pain, but I don't understand why it happens. The forum behaves just as it used to for me: I clicked the Remember Me box and I'm never logged out however long I'm away or if the machine is shut down overnight, so it's not a fixed forum setting..

Been there and done that. Perhaps I should try a browser other than Firefox, just in case . . .

Same here, I'm always logged in however long I'm away from the forum - and on two computers, running Safari.
