    Mavericks - Save to Desktop

On my iMac I set it up to Save automatically to the Desktop, but I can't remember how to do it . The MBP saves files to Documents and I have to fiddle and change it each time (sometimes I forget and then they're not where I expect them to be). Sooo annoying :-)

So how do I set the default to Save to Desktop? (Word Preferences doesn't seem to offer that under 'Save' - which is where I thought I'd find it).

    In Word ?

I think you set it in the FILE LOCATIONS settings in the preferences not the SAVE ones ?

I think you need to click Safari - Preferences - General: then you make sure the option about 'Save downloaded files' is set to 'Desktop' - see below

"...the isle is full of noises,
Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
      Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."

Safari? For Word? In any case, that seems to be set to Desktop already - but isn't that for downloading files from the net?

I think File Locations will work (but I'm on the iMac atm). I had tried that but had to click on Desktop in the sidebar, not in the dropdown menu - it wasn't there.

I'll try that tomorrow - the MBP is tucked up for the night.

If it works - thank you, if not :-)

But, out of interest, what do you use as your document writing program?

Well I don't really need one privately; and if I do, or need to deal with work documents, I can connect direct to my whole work network via a 'portal' called CITRIX, which allows me to have the full PC based Word system at my office, as if I were there...

                So you use Word too!

I always used Word on my PCs before I switched to Macs so was left floundering until I saw that there was a Mac version ...

Yes I look at things using that... not sure I'd want to use it for detailed work, formatting etc....

As and when the pension pot exerts more of a pull than the ineffable joys of work, and I cease to have access to the work Word system, I wonder if I'll bother with Word for mac... It costs quite a bit, ff, no?

                      Open office
                      Libre office ?

Surely you don't want any more "office" though ?

That's how I feel at the moment, certainly!

I wouldn't think it would strain your pension pot, Mr Rumpole £80? Cheaper alternatives available. My version is 2008 and I can't see any need for a more recent one.

                            Whats a "pension pot"

David Bedford used to say that his "pension" was the string arrangement for Our House by Madness

Ask Rumpole - he was the one that used the phrase. In my case it would be more of a pension demitasse.
