Originally posted by Caliban View PostWell, yes I could. Upgraded it to 10.6.8 and thence last night to Yosemite. It took about 50 minutes to download and was problem free. Had to download iPhoto (free) separately. First thought - you soon get used to the 'Early Learning Centre' look of the icons etc. Seems quick and clean, it connected instantly to the Airport Express for internet radio etc, no problems so far. And it's resurrected an old MBP that was rather sluggish etc with the old OS.

Was your download across a fast network (e.g BT Infinity) or a slower one? I'm trying to estimate whether 50 minutes is a reasonable time - though the limitations may be at the server end. How long did the actual install take? You may also have had a similar time to spend in your upgrade to 10.6.8. so you've been busy - maybe in the background.
As it's the spare machine, I could get on with other stuff on the 'old' Mavericks MBP!

Having read (skimmed!) all of the above, I am just hoping that my 2010 MacBook Pro, using 10.6.8, does not give up for a while. I am perfectly satisfied with it.
Where would Apple be if everyone was like me?

Battery life considerations do depend on your patterns of usage though, and you may not be bothered by that.

The older MBP now with Yosemite is early 2008 and I haven't had an opportunity to test the battery life aspect. All I do know is that its swiftness has improved immeasurably compared with the old 10.5. Leopard it was running.
