Has anyone round here done the upgrade of Mac OS X to Yosemite yet? I never did get round to installing Mavericks, though I have used machines which came with it pre-installed.
Yosemite anyone?

As I've not bothered with iPhones I'm not sure that this would be helpful to me. What I really want is an interface which isn't a total pain to use, and TBH I don't think either Apple or MS have done that. I want to have a large display area with sensible functionality - and indeed the new iMac with the Retina display should have enough screen - though the non Retina version of the 27 inch model is quite good.
Don't any of the developers look at what people might "really" want to do?

I took part in the public beta, and installed the final version on its release. I haven't experienced any problems so far.
I do like the new look, and as an iPhone/iPad user the integration is very convenient.
There's a long (correction, _very_ long) review/what's new article here...

Looking at one of the videos - the David Pogue one - seems like a real advert for NOT upgrading. Who the **** wants to upgrade so that you can answer wrong numbers or nuisance calls on a computer? Also, I really don't want my desktop to look like an iPhone.
In the meantime, is there a way of upgrading to Mavericks, or is that no longer possible?

I don't think Mavericks is still available if you haven't already 'purchased' it.Steve

Is there any point me upgrading from the very satisfactory and stable Mavericks I've had since upgrading just under a year ago?

Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."

Staying clear of the "upgraded" Yosemite until I know it actually works with the things I use
There are problems with external firewire devices for a start

If I were you I'd have a dig around to see what's new and then make the decision.
Certainly Safari is now a lot faster, and for anyone using a laptop the battery should last longer using Yosemite.
It looks rather different to Mavericks too. Personally I like the new look, but not everyone does.Steve

I installed Yosemite as soon as it became available and am very happy: not only Safari, but my entire system is much snappier than it was with Mavericks. I'm a fan of the new look and am looking forward to my promised early Christmas present of a new (iOS 8-capable) iPhone which will allow me to experience the mobile/desktop integration which I can see being very useful.

Does it work with external devices ?
I hear there are lots of problems with some software (as when Mavericks came out)
